Mookie Betts is looking to get his season on track after missing time with a right oblique strain, but his budding media career is adding another credit as he is set to star in Disney Jr.’s “Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends.”
New episodes of the show premier Thursday, June 11, on Disney Jr. at 7:00 a.m. PT, and Disney Jr. on Demand. Then on Friday, 11 episodes will become available to stream on Disney+ in the United States and select international markets.
The new season starts with a “Giant-Sized Armor” story arc where the Iron Friends take on even bigger challenges and bring them face-to-face with a new lineup of heroes and baddies, including “Thor,” “Loki” and “Odin.”
Mookie Betts’ Marvel character
Betts is poised to portray “Dizzy Doubleday” in the series, a baseball player who loves to help young kids learn the game. That is perfectly in line with one of the roles Betts has taken on for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Gavin Lux, Alex Freeland and Dalton Rushing are among those who have lauded Betts for providing leadership and teaching tools. This past offseason Betts went through shortstop drills with former top prospect Nick Shumpert, who is his cousin.
Also set to guest star in “Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends” is Dodgers broadcaster Jessica Mendoza. She is playing “Dottie Doubleday,” sister to “Dizzy” and owner of the local batting cage.
Series stars of the show are Mason Blomberg and Lincoln Bonilla as Tony Stark (Iron Man), Kapri Ladd as Riri Williams (Ironheart), Aidyn Ahn as Amadeus Cho (Iron Hulk), Tony Hale as Ultron, Vanessa Bayer as Swarm, and Talon Warburton as Absorbing Man.
Alan Ruck voices Odin, the mighty and kind ruler of Asgard.
“Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends” follows the adventures (and misadventures) of best friends and super geniuses Tony Stark, Riri Williams and “Amadeus Cho as they work together to solve problems, both big and small, and protect their city.
Betts’ only media work include working a guest correspondent during the 2023 World Series and again at last year’s MLB Open Golf Tournament. He also hosts a podcast for Bleacher Report, previously starred in ABC’s “Shifting Gears” and recently appeared alongside his daughter, Kynlee, in a promo video for “Toy Story 5.”
