Max Muncy Open To Dodgers Potentially Re-Signing Albert Pujols

After Albert Pujols signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers following his surprising release from the L.A. Angels last May, Max Muncy was among those who quickly gravitated toward the future Hall of Famer.

Many within the Dodgers organization spoke highly of the addition throughout the season and Pujols’ influence could be found throughout the clubhouse and even on the field with numerous players having success while using his bat.

Whether it was the home run hugs or exploring his wealth of knowledge, Muncy explained during a recent appearance on “Dodger Talk” with David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio, that Pujols would once again be welcomed back with the Dodgers:

“When he got released from the Angels, I remember I went straight to Doc, straight to Andrew and said, ‘Hey, we need to bring this guy in. We need to bring him in.’ He ended up showing up and it was great. Me and him had a great relationship right from Day 1. I’m always going to be thankful for that. … He was awesome. He was a lot of fun and taught everybody a lot of stuff. He brought a lot to the ballclub and helped us win a lot of games.

“I’m very thankful for every second we had with him. I definitely would not be opposed to having another season with him. He can still hit lefties really good and he still brings a lot to a clubhouse. He’s awesome to have around, so I definitely would not be opposed to that.”

Overall with L.A., Pujols hit .254/.299/.460 with three doubles, 12 home runs, and 38 RBI over 85 games (37 starts). But he was brought to the Dodgers to hit left-handers and did just that to the tune of a .303/.347/.606 batting line.

Amid speculation he would potentially retire after the 2021 season, Pujols participated in the Dominican Winter League for the first time in his career.

Teams reportedly interested in Pujols

Although Muncy and other Dodgers would like for Pujols to be re-signed, there’s yet to be any public indication the organization is considering doing so.

Pujols did reportedly draw interest from the St. Louis Cardinals, among other teams.
