There was a lot of frustration with officiating following the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 2 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Throughout the night, Austin Reaves, LeBron James and JJ Redick were all seen angrily voicing their issues with the way things were being called.

But that frustration stretched beyond the Lakers’ locker room as many watching the game were annoyed and unhappy with the referees. This included multi-platinum hip-hop artist Lil Wayne, who took to social media during Game 2 to call Thunder games unwatchable while also joking about the officials were wearing the same colors as them:

This is not a new complaint towards the Thunder as they have garnered a reputation over the past couple seasons of getting favorable calls. Lil Wayne is a known Lakers fan, but he is simply voicing the frustrations that many fans have been yelling about for some time now. Usually, much of that focus has gone towards their superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who many have referred to as a “foul merchant,” but the frustrations in this game went well beyond him.

Reaves got into a heated exchange with official John Goble following an incident during a jump ball in which he felt Goble disrespected him by yelling in his face. There were other issues as well, including non-calls on obvious fouls or fouls being ruled as non-shooting and baskets being taken away because of it. Once the game ended, Reaves would even go to center court, surrounded by the rest of the Lakers, to have one last conversation with officials.

It would be unfair to say the referees were the sole reason the Lakers are down 2-0 in this series as the Thunder did what they needed to do to protect home court. But this team has such a small margin for error that every little thing matters and those added up in Game 2, with even Lil Wayne standing up and taking notice.

Lakers coach JJ Redick criticizes lack of foul calls on Thunder

Redick certainly had his issues with the officials and even picked up a technical foul in the first quarter of Game 2, but the Lakers coach still voiced his frustrations after the game as well. Redick noted multiple plays where he felt obvious calls were missed while adding that the Thunder are tough enough to beat as it is without the added benefit of a favorable whistle.
