The Los Angeles Lakers lost a treasured member of their family as legendary PA announcer Lawrence Tanter passed away at the age of 76. Tanter had been the Lakers’ PA announcer for more than 40 seasons and was the voice of this franchise since the Showtime era of the 1980s all the way through this most recent LeBron James era.
Tanter’s iconic voice made him such a memorable and legendary figure and his loss was felt greatly by many throughout the organization. But even someone who is no longer with the team in James, made sure to take to social media and give a heartfelt response to the news of Tanter’s unfortunate passing:

Whereas most PA announcers bring more of a high-energy style, Tanter and his deep voice and smooth delivery were completely different. He actually was a DJ for various jazz radio stations around L.A. and he brought that style to every Lakers home game for more than 40 years.
Tanter would actually miss the final six home games of this past season as well as the playoffs due to health concerns and had retired from his role this offseason. It was announced that he would’ve been transitioning into a new advisor role focused on game presentation.
In a role that always doesn’t get the attention and love it deserves, Tanter was always recognized and respected by the best for what he meant to the Lakers for so many years, hence why James made sure to give him his flowers while he was still here, and again after his death.
Trevor Ariza believes LeBron James’ time with Lakers should be celebrated
During his tenure with the Lakers, Tanter witnessed 16 Western Conference Championships and 10 NBA Championships with the last of those coming with James leading the way. Former Laker Trevor Ariza was also a member of one of those title teams with the franchise and he believes James’ time with the Lakers needs to be celebrated.
