The center position has been a point of discussion for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason as the team acquired Walker Kessler via sign-and-trade from the Utah Jazz to become their starting center for the foreseeable future. The Lakers also signed veteran Kevon Looney for some depth, but the team apparently doesn’t feel like that’s quite enough.
The Lakers have been known to still be on the lookout for another addition at the center position, but the options available through free agency or trade are slim. But one name that has emerged as a potential trade possibility for the Lakers is Milwaukee Bucks big man Jericho Sims, via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype:

Sims is an intriguing possibility as he certainly fits the big, athletic, rim-running archetype that has thrived alongside superstar Luka Doncic in the past. Jaxson Hayes enjoyed plenty of success over the past couple of seasons and Sims could potentially step into that role should the Lakers pull off a deal.
A second-round pick of the New York Knicks back in 2021, Sims is coming off the best season of his career so far. The 6’10, 250 pound center appeared in 67 games (19 starts), averaging 5.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 78.4% from the field in 19.7 minutes per contest.
Despite the modest numbers, Sims had some impressive performances in the final month of the season when given a bigger opportunity. In the final seven games of the season, Sims averaged 10 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 30.7 minutes. This included a 20-rebound performance against the Houston Rockets and a triple-double against the Detroit Pistons.
With the Lakers looking for depth up front, someone like Sims makes a ton of sense as a big who can provide energy and athleticism off the bench, while also being capable of stepping into some spot starts if needed. And with the Bucks needing to trim their roster down, the Lakers might be able to bring him in with the right offer. Milwaukee is already invested in to other centers with Myles Turner and Kel’el Ware, so they might view Sims as expendable.
Timberwolves emerge as suitor for Lakers free agency target Jonathan Kuminga
Another name that has been linked to the Lakers throughout free agency is forward Jonathan Kuminga, whom the team has been exploring sign-and-trade possibilities with the Atlanta Hawks on. The Cleveland Cavaliers are also known to be in pursuit of the wing, and now the Minnesota Timberwolves have also emerged as a potential suitor for Kuminga.
