There has been a ton of turnover in the Los Angeles Rams organization this offseason as not only have they brought in new coordinators for the offense, defense and special teams, but the biggest news of all was the release of Todd Gurley.

Gurley’s knee issues forced the team to make a decision on the star, particularly in regards to his big payday. Letting him go was a huge decision, but of course there have been smaller moves for the team as well. One such move that may have snuck under the radar was the tendering of the Rams exclusive-rights free agents, including tight end Johnny Mundt.

Tendering his rights makes the Rams the only team that were able to negotiate with Mundt this offseason, and he will be back in 2020.

In an interview with Sarina Morales of TheRams.com, Mundt stated he feels good about the opportunity presented to him:

“It feels great. Having another year in this system gives me a lot of confidence. I feel grateful for the opportunity to compete another season here in LA.”

Last year was Mundt’s first year with some significant time on offense. Although he was able to appear in 19% of offensive snaps, he only recorded five receptions.

With both Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett seeing a majority of the time at tight end, Mundt was mainly brought in to help with blocking.

Despite finally getting some time with the offense, Mundt still spent a majority of his time with the special teams, as many young players do. With a new offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator joining the coaching staff, who knows how things will shake up next year.

One thing everyone knows will be different for the Rams in 2020 is their stadium. The team moved on from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and will finally enter their new home at Hollywood Park, SoFi Stadium, in 2020.

Mundt believes that playing at the brand new SoFi Stadium will bring a renewed energy to the team:

“I believe there is going to be a new sense of energy in the stadium come game day. I am really looking forward to that.”

The Rams certainly could use some new energy after a disappointing 2019 season. Although the team finished with a respectable 9-7 record, missing the playoffs is unacceptable for a team with a talent threshold as high as the Rams. Hopefully, Mundt and SoFi Stadium can help get the team back on track in 2020.
