The Las Vegas Raiders are coming off their most disappointing week of the 2020 NFL season after being blown out 43-6 by a three-win Atlanta Falcons team.
Players and coaches alike were at a loss for words after the game. Even head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr wasted no time in apologizing to fans for their abysmal performance.
While there are few silver linings to take away from such a lopsided loss, the Raiders did not do themselves any favors with costly mistakes and an overwhelming amount of penalties. Fortunately, they now have a chance to bounce back in a favorable matchup versus the winless New York Jets in Week 13.
Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is confident that the team can end the road trip on an high note with a win over New York, per Levi Edwards of the team’s official website:
“We have a chance to go out there and fight and really have that opportunity to go get better next week,” said Renfrow. “And I think it’s a good opportunity to go into [New York], they kind of derailed our season last year, and so what an opportunity for us to be able to go there and go get some redemption, per se.”
It has been an eventful 2020 season for the Raiders, to say the least. Their year has been marred by injuries and multiple setbacks with the coronavirus (COVID-19) protocol.
Despite all the dysfunction, the team still managed to take care of business on the field by putting themselves in position for an AFC Wild Card spot. However, their recent loss to Atlanta put a major damper in their plans given how deep the conference is.
Pair this with the fact that the Jets got the Raiders’ number last season and it appears they are now as adamant as ever about making a statement. OF course, any chance at a potential resurgence will need to begin on offense with quarterback Derek Carr.
Renfrow has done his part to emerge as an integral option for Carr in the passing game this season and even finished as the team’s leading receiver with 73 yards on nine receptions against the Falcons. Regardless, everyone on this side of the ball will need to find a way to kick things up a notch in the coming weeks if they hope to get back into the playoff picture.
