The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing another intrasquad game at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, which the team will live stream on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. First pitch of the exhibition is set for 6:40 p.m. PT, and Alanna Rizzo and Nomar Garciaparra will provide commentary.

Heading into Spring Training 2.0, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated the team would rely on a heavy dose of live batting practice and intrasquad games as part of their preparation for the 2020 regular season. L.A. has just over two weeks before taking the field against the San Francisco Giants on July 23 for their Opening Day matchup.

Intrasquad play thus far has provided multiple highlights, including Clayton Kershaw facing Mookie Betts, and Joc Pederson needling Cody Bellinger after being called an ‘easy out’ during his at-bat against Ross Stripling.

Betts is among those who believe there is benefit from getting some semblance of a game setting with the intrasquad matchups. “I think there’s a little competition there so that definitely helps,” he said. “But I’m not sure that we’ll get the full fill until the regular season starts.”

Roberts has also been pleased with what he’s seen from players thus far in terms of focus. However, not all has gone well. Max Muncy was hit in the finger on his left hand and forced to sit out Monday’s action.

“He’s just going to lay low for a little bit and we’ll see where we’re at with him,” Roberts said. “Right now, he’s just kind of day-to-day. It was his left ring finger, that first digit; they call it the metacarpal. Hopefully we’ll get him back sooner than later.”

Dodgers exhibition games

Although the Dodgers don’t have Cactus League play to lean on, the team did take advantage of Major League Baseball permitting up to three exhibition games being scheduled.

The Dodgers are playing each of theirs at Dodger Stadium, beginning with a two-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks that starts Sunday, July 19. Then on July 21, the Dodgers will host the L.A. Angels to wrap up their exhibition schedule.
