The Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation has been a strength for the team this season, but multiple injuries have turned it into somewhat of a question mark for the postseason.

Tyler Glasnow and Gavin Stone are locked into an October rotation spot, but Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler are all on the injured list with unlcear timetables, Bobby Miller has struggled thus far, and James Paxton has concerning peripherals that make him less than ideal to start in the postseason, despite his success.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Dodgers are doing their due diligence on how to upgrade their club, but not many teams are clear sellers yet. One that is are the Chicago White Sox, who have a pair of stars available in Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr.

The Dodgers reportedly have interest in both players, but Crochet may be their top target of the pair. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers already made an offer to the White Sox for Crochet, but it was not enough to get the deal done:

The Los Angeles Dodgers have already made an offer to the White Sox for Crochet, but it was quickly rejected.

Due to Crochet’s talent and team control, the cost will, and rightfully should, be significant to acquire him. He is not a free agent until the 2027 season, so he has two years of arbitration remaining after 2024.

The southpaw has thrown 94.1 innings this season, already setting a career-high by 40 more than his previous high in 2021. Because of that and it being his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, he is on an innings limit with the White Sox.

Still, the 25-year-old has top-of-the-rotation stuff, which has led to elite results with a 3.05 ERA, 2.54 FIP, 12.40 strikeouts per nine, 1.91 walks per nine and 3.2 WAR.

Crochet made his MLB debut the same year he was drafted as a reliever, completely skipping the Minor League level. This is his first season as a starter at the Major League level.

White Sox scouting Dodgers system

The White Sox have reportedly placed an emphasis on scouting the Dodgers’ Minor League system, as well as a few other organizations, ahead of the trade deadline, which is set for 3 p.m. PT on Tuesday, July 30.

There should already be some familiarity between the clubs after they completed a trade last year that sent Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly to L.A. for a package led by Nick Nastrini.
