The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Edgardo Henriquez for nearly two weeks, but things are trending toward the right-hander returning in time for the postseason.
Henriquez landed on the 15-day injured list on Sept. 14 due to low back discomfort. An MRI a few days later ruled out an oblique injury and showed a low-grade back strain, which was a positive outcome, especially given how late in the season it was.
Henriquez hoped he would be able to return for the National League Division Series, and now his optimism for that is growing with each day.
The 24-year-old threw a bullpen session after his symptoms improved, and he believes he’ll be ready for the playoffs, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

The Dodgers have also said they expect Henriquez to return for the playoffs as he goes through his throwing program. “So as I understand it from before, we still expect him to be back for the postseason,” manager Dave Roberts said.
The Dodgers only have three remaining games, so Henriquez’s regular season has already ended. But with the Dodgers clinching the second seed in the NL, they won’t play their first postseason game until Saturday, Oct. 3.
That gives Henriquez extra time to fully recover and continue building back up.
When he returns, the Dodgers pitching staff will be at its healthiest in recent memory and in a better position than the previous two years when they won back-to-back World Series titles.
Edgardo Henriquez’s 2026 season
During Henriquez’s final outing of his 2026 regular season, he allowed two runs against the Miami Marlins. He retired just two batters after entering in the eighth inning, trying to protect a 3-0 lead.
Despite ending on a poor note, the flamethrower finished his 2026 season with 61 appearances in a breakout year. Henriquez went 4-1 with a 2.85 ERA and also set a Dodgers record for the fastest pitch thrown on a strikeout earlier this year.
Roberts said Henriquez could receive more save opportunities before he landed on the IL. It’s unlikely the Dodgers throw him right into a save chance when he returns, but Henriquez should still see plenty of high-leverage work upon his return.
