The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen took a hit earlier this month when Edgardo Henriquez was placed on the 15-day injured list with low back discomfort.
Not all was dire, however, as an MRI ruled out a potential oblique injury for the right-hander. The positive development further reinforced the team’s belief that Henriquez would be able to return for the postseason.
The 24-year-old has already resumed his throwing program and now faces an important week as he tries to work his way back to the Dodgers in time for the National League Division Series.
“The last I heard is his last bullpen was easy 96-97 (mph). Healthy, so he’ll participate in the lives, the simulated games this coming week. And if all goes well, he’ll be on the roster,” manager Dave Roberts said on SportsNet LA.
Henriquez previously expressed optimism that he would be able to contribute to the Dodgers in October, and if he is able to continue making progress, that possibility appears increasingly likely.
Henriquez’s recovery process has certainly been aided by the Dodgers clinching a first-round bye after finishing with the second-best record in the NL. Had they slipped further in the standings, Henriquez likely would not have been available for the Wild Card Series.
Instead, L.A. is looking at a scenario in which they could have their healthiest pitching staff in quite some time for the NLDS. In addition to Henriquez’s potential return, they recently welcomed back Edwin Díaz and Roki Sasaki.

Henriquez enjoyed a breakout season in 2026, pitching to a 4-1 record with a 2.85 ERA, 2.50 FIP, 1.03 WHIP and 10.7 strikeouts per nine across 61 appearances (one start). Among other accomplishments, he set a Dodgers record for the fastest pitch thrown on a strikeout during the Statcast Era.
Henriquez struggled during his final appearance of the regular season, allowing two runs against the Miami Marlins. He retired just two batters after entering in the eighth inning to protect a 3-0 lead.
Despite ending the year on a poor note, the flamethrower will undoubtedly strengthen the postseason bullpen if he is healthy enough to return.
Prior to the injury, Roberts noted that Henriquez could see more save opportunities down the stretch. While it is unlikely the Dodgers will throw him straight into a save situation immediately upon his return, Henriquez should still see plenty of high-leverage work in October.
