The latest round of Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training roster cuts saw Tyler Cyr and Devin Mann re-assigned to Minor League camp.
Cyr and Mann are still eligible to appear in remaining Spring Training games, though those opportunities are likely to be limited to Cactus League play that concludes Saturday. The Dodgers then return to Southern California for the exhibition Freeway Series.
Cyr has pitched in seven games for the Dodgers thus far, turning in four scoreless appearances. He nevertheless has a 7.11 ERA to go along with a 1.26 WHIP and eight strikeouts over 6.1 innings pitched.
Cyr was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 10th round of the 2015 MLB Draft and granted free agency in November 2021. He went on to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies and made his MLB debut with the club last season.
However, Cyr appeared in just one game before getting designated for assignment the following day as a corresponding move to the Phillies selecting the contract of Michael Plassmeyer.
The Oakland Athletics proceeded to claim Cyr off waivers and provided him with more of an opportunity. The 29-year-old went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA, 3.04 FIP and 1.08 WHIP in 11 games for the A’s.
Mann has just six hits in 32 at-bats over 19 Cactus League games. He also played in Spring Training contests with the Dodgers each year from 2020-2022, but this represented his biggest opportunity.
Dodgers Spring Training roster
The Dodgers Spring Training roster now is at 40 players (21 pitchers; 19 position players), though that includes Daniel Hudson, Gavin Lux and Alex Reyes, each of whom are injured. Lux is going to miss the entire 2023 season after having surgery for a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.
Hudson will begin the season on the 15-day injured list and Reyes isn’t expected to return from right shoulder surgery until multiple months into the schedule.
The number of Dodgers non-roster invitees to Spring Training remaining in camp are two pitchers and six position players.
