The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to get back Austin Barnes and Julio Urías this week after Team Mexico was eliminated by Japan in the 2023 World Baseball Classic semifinal.
Urías had already been removed from Mexico’s roster due to no longer being available to pitch. The left-hander didn’t earn a decision in his two starts as he finished with a 7.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP to go along with 10 strikeouts over nine innings pitched.
Mexico complied with the Dodgers’ wishes on a limit for Urías as he didn’t throw more than 62 pitches in either of his two appearances. The 26-year-old previously made two Cactus League starts before leaving for the WBC.
According to Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA, Urías will return to the mound on Friday in the Dodgers’ Spring Training matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers:

Urías’ presumed start against the Brewers will likely be his last of Spring Training. That would give him five days of rest before potentially taking the mound for the Dodgers on Opening Day against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Urías has compiled a 1-1 record with a 1.35 ERA and 0.75 WHIP in 6.2 innings of work this spring. He is coming off a second consecutive excellent season that saw him go 17-7 with a National League-best 2.16 ERA, 3.71 FIP and 0.96 WHIP in 175 innings pitched (31 starts).
Julio Urías grateful for ‘incredible opportunity’ in WBC
After not being able to pitch for Team Mexico in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, Urías was thankful for the opportunity to represent them in this year’s tournament.
“It’s an incredible opportunity and experience to be able to put on that jersey and represent my country,” he recently said.
