The Los Angeles Dodgers called up Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Justin Wrobleski. To Make room for Ramirez on the 40-man roster, Michael Petersen was designated for assignment.
Ramirez rejoins the Dodgers for his second stint with the club after being designated for assignment on July 30. With the big club, he was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in seven games. The 35-year-old made 25 appearances with Oklahoma City this season, going a combined 3-1 with a 4.65 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 31.0 innings.
He was acquired from the New York Yankees on April 2 for cash considerations, and he is a combined 7-7 with a 4.20 ERA in 103 Major League appearances with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), San Diego Padres (2021), New York Yankees (2023) and Los Angeles (2024).
He provides additional depth in the bullpen until Brusdar Graterol returns, likely on Monday, one day after the Dodgers utilized multiple relievers in a bullpen day on Saturday.
The decision to add Ramirez over someone such as Edgardo Henriquez was likely made to keep 40-man roster flexibility open when more moves will need to be made to activate players down the line.
Dodgers option Justin Wrobleski
Wrobleski was optioned after pitching two innings for the Dodgers during Saturday’s win. The southpaw pitched two scoreless innings, but he was playing with fire as he walked three hitters and allowed a hit.
He was previously recalled for his fourth stint with the team to replace Gavin Stone, who went on the 15-day injured list.
The southpaw has been forced into a somewhat significant role for the club after being rushed to the Majors due to their many injuries to the pitching staff.
He has thrown 32.1 innings at the Major League level while posting a 6.40 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP, 22 strikeouts and 14 walks.
Wrobleski needs continued development in the Minor Leagues, but if the Dodgers continue to run into injury issues, he could be back with the club.
