The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Kyle Hurt off the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Hurt had a limited stint with the Dodgers before he dealt with right shoulder inflammation that landed him on the 15-day injured list back on April 20.
His original IL stint was backdated to April 17, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Hurt had been dealing with it throughout the season.
“I think it’s sort of been something that’s been in and out,” Roberts said in April. “But his last one, velocity down just a tick and then he said he just didn’t feel good coming out of it, so we kind of kept an eye on it. Came in and played catch, felt better, but then tried to get off the mound and just didn’t feel well.”
Hurt began a rehab assignment in early June and progressed from it well. June 16 was the first day Hurt could be activated from the 60-day IL.
The right-hander appeared in three games (one start) across two separate stints with the Dodgers this season, going 0-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.
Hurt was on the Dodgers’ Seoul Series roster and appeared in one game in South Korea before being optioned prior to the Dodger Stadium opener.
The 25-year-old has started in two games for the Oklahoma City Baseball Club this year, where he allowed three runs in four innings pitched.
Hurt should continue to work as a starting pitcher in the Minor Leagues, but his ability and upside out of the bullpen make him a potential weapon for the Dodgers.
Max Muncy moved to 60-day IL as corresponding move for Kyle Hurt
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred Max Muncy to the 60-day IL. That makes the earliest Muncy can return after the All-Star break.
Muncy was placed on the 15-day IL on May 15 and the Dodgers were originally hopeful his IL stint would be a quick one, but those hopes did not come to fruition.
He was recently shut down from any rotational work in his core, and they have no estimated timeline for the third baseman.
