The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Bryan Hudson from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated Tayler Scott for assignment prior to Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

Hudson has impressed with OKC this season, going 4-0 with a 2.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 25 games (three starts). The left-handed reliever has 51 strikeouts against 14 walks over 29 innings pitched during those appearances.

The Chicago Cubs selected Hudson in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He remained part of the Cubs organization until electing free agency after the 2022 season.

Hudson joins a Dodgers bullpen that figures to be without multiple options for a second game in a row. Evan Phillips, Yency Almonte and Shelby Miller were not available in the extra-innings loss to the Giants. Though, Almonte did begin to throw in the bullpen at one point.

Brusdar Graterol, Alex Vesia and potentially Phillips figure to be unavailable Saturday.

Hudson is a fourth left-hander in the Dodgers bullpen.

Scott is now going through waivers after being among the relievers used in Friday’s loss. Scott has pitched to a 9.00 ERA over six appearances with the Dodgers. He was recalled June 8 as the corresponding move to Noah Syndergaard going on the 15-day injured list.

Scott previously spent time up in the Majors with the Seattle Mariners (2019), Baltimore Orioles (2019) and San Diego Padres (2022). Including his stint with the Dodgers, Scott is a combined 0-1 with an 10.75 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 27 Major League games (two starts).

The Dodgers signed Scott to a Minor League contract on January 3, 2023. Scott is the second player in MLB history who was born in South Africa.

Dodgers to make MLB debuts

If or when Hudson appears in a game, he’ll be the seventh Dodgers player to make his MLB debut this season.

Hudson will join Michael Busch (April 25), Gavin Stone (May 3), Bobby Miller (May 23), Jonny DeLuca (June 7), Nick Robertson (June 7) and Emmet Sheehan (June 16).
