The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Anthony Banda on the 15-day injured list with a left hand fracture as the corresponding roster move to activating Brusdar Graterol.

Graterol is back in the Dodgers bullpen after his 2024 debut lasted all of eight pitches. He suffered a right hamstring strain that initially was believed to be season-ending, but an MRI the following day revealed the severity to just be Grade 1.

“I think early on, you could see with his emotion, that he probably felt it was going to be the season for him,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “But with what we’ve gathered, the information, I think there’s a sense of relief and optimism.”

Graterol took a brief break from throwing before starting to play catch and resuming other activities. He pitched for Oklahoma City on Sept. 3 and 6 as part of a rehab assignment.

The 26-year-old didn’t make his season debut until Aug. 6 because of right shoulder inflammation that surfaced in Spring Training.

While Graterol was quickly ruled out for the Seoul Series, the Dodgers expected he would recover in time for the Dodger Stadium opener. But that didn’t come to be, as Graterol suffered multiple setbacks during his recovery process.

Dodgers lose Anthony Banda to injury

Banda has made 46 appearances for the Dodgers this season, going 2-2 with a 3.23 ERA. The 31-year-old has struck out 50 batters in 47.1 innings while limiting hitters to a .247 batting average.

Banda has been a key option out of the Dodgers bullpen for most of the year but recently ran into a rough patch, likely due to being overworked.

It’s not yet clear when Banda suffered his left hand fracture. It’s likely a season-ending injury.

The Dodgers acquired Banda rom the Cleveland Guardians on May 17 in exchange for cash considerations.

Banda has pitched over parts of eight Major League seasons with Arizona Diamondbacks (2017), Tampa Bay Rays (2018-2020), New York Mets (2021), Pittsburgh Pirates (2021-2022), Toronto Blue Jays (2022), New York Yankees (2022), Washington Nationals (2023) and Dodgers (2024), going a combined 9-8 with a 4.99 ERA in 136 games (seven starts).
