The Los Angeles Dodgers have +350 odds to trade for Max Scherzer at the MLB deadline this season, which is second-best behind only the New York Mets (+300). Milwaukee Brewers are third with +400 odds, followed by the New York Yankees (+450) and Houston Astros (+500).

The Washington Nationals historically have decided against being sellers at the MLB trade deadline, but this year are believed to have more openness to the possibility. The Nationals enter play Tuesday with a 45-54 record that has them in fourth place in the National League East.

In addition to Scherzer the Nationals are also said to be fielding a plethora of trade interest in All-Star shortstop Trea Turner.

The Dodgers have not been linked to Scherzer, but considering his ability to have a significant impact and the team’s search for pitching, there is presumed to be some level of interest.

However, complicating a potential Scherzer trade is his full no-trade clause and recent right triceps injury. Scherzer was scratched from a start over the weekend because of the injury but did bounce back to throw a bullpen session on Monday.

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old reportedly is open to waiving his no-trade clause if it means joining a team on the West Coast. The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are also thought to be in the market for pitching.

Dodgers won’t trade Ruiz for rental

The Nationals’ asking price in a Scherzer trade remains unclear, but the Dodgers reportedly are not willing to part with Keibert Ruiz in a deal for a player who is not under contract beyond the 2021 season.

Ruiz has annually drawn interest at the trade deadline, and in most years the Dodgers have given off the impression they are unwilling to discuss the talented catching prospect in potential moves.
