Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Hurt By ‘Bad Pitches Right Over The Zone’ Against Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers have methodically managed the workloads for their starting pitchers this season, but Sunday called for Tyler Glasnow to take the mound on regular rest for the first time in 2024.

Glasnow’s start came in the series finale against the New York Yankees as he looked to help the Dodgers complete a sweep that would’ve punctuated a winning road trip.

Glasnow had moments of pitching well but surrendered five runs on eight hits, including two homers, over six innings. He was tabbed with the loss as the Dodgers fell 6-4.

After the game, Glasnow noted he was hurt by mistake pitches that were left over the plate, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I thought the stuff was okay,” Glasnow said of his outing. “I just think in bad counts, bad pitches right over the zone. Just in guys’ zones that you’re not supposed to go.”

Glasnow’s home run troubles first cropped up when Oswaldo Cabrera ambushed a first-pitch fastball that he lined out to right field in the third inning for a solo shot.

Then after the Dodgers had taken a lead in the top of the sixth inning, Glasnow threw a 97 mph fastball down the middle of the plate that Trent Grisham hit for a three-run homer. Grisham’s go-ahead home run came amid “We want Soto” chants from Yankees fans who were clamoring for Juan Soto to pinch-hit in the key at-bat.

One silver lining for Glasnow was his 12 strikeouts, the second-most he’s collected in a start this season.

Although the end result was a loss, there was a welcomed change for Glasnow as the Dodgers scored while he was still in the game.

That had not been the case in five consecutive starts heading into Glasnow’s outing at Yankee Stadium.
