Los Angeles Dodgers injuries have been a never-ending theme throughout the 2024 season, and now Jack Flaherty became their latest pitcher to deal with an issue.
Flaherty’s trouble arose in the fifth inning on Tuesday night when three different comebackers were hit in his direction. The last of which struck Flaherty on his right wrist, prompting a mound visit by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert.
Flaherty threw multiple warmup pitches before remaining in the game to finish the inning.
Once back in the dugout, Roberts and Albert spoke with Flaherty as he flexed his right wrist and seemingly assured them he could remain in the game. Blue tape was put on Flaherty’s wrist before he took the mound to begin the sixth inning.
He gave up a leadoff single and threw a wild pitch but got out of the inning unscathed.
“It’s good. Everything checks out pretty good. We’ll see how it is tomorrow, but it feels pretty good right now,” Flaherty said after the Dodgers’ 3-2 loss.
“I was able to go out and finish the sixth with no real issue whatsoever. We’ll see how it is tomorrow.”
The start was Flaherty’s fifth against the Dodgers since being acquired at the trade deadline. He entered 3-0 with a 3.22 ERA, 3.70 FIP and 1.25 WHIP with L.A.
Flaherty surrendered a solo home run in the second inning and two-run shot in the fifth. With that, he’s given up multiple homers in three of five starts with the Dodgers.
Flaherty previously withstood being hit in the leg by a comeback in his Dodgers debut.
How a Jack Flaherty injury would impact Dodgers
If Flaherty is to miss any starts, it would place more strain on a Dodgers rotation that already is without Tyler Glasnow for longer than anticipated because of right elbow tendinitis.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, but he figures to be multiple weeks from being ready to come off the 60-day injured list.
