The Los Angeles Dodgers were dealt a blow on Wednesday as Chris Taylor was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left foot fracture. Zach McKinstry was activated off the 10-day IL as the corresponding move.
Taylor had missed the series finale against the San Diego Padres on Sunday due to what the Dodgers deemed a left foot contusion. He started their next game against the Colorado Rockies but was unable to play all nine innings.
The Dodgers were hoping Taylor would miss only a few games, but he underwent a CT scan that showed the severity of the injury.
With Taylor now sidelined for the foreseeable future, Gavin Lux, Jake Lamb and Trayce Thompson are expected to share time in left field. “I think overall, Gavin is going to take on some more left field responsibility,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.
“I think other times we’ll put Jake out there and other times we’ll put Trayce out there. It’s certainly a big loss, but we’ve got infield coverage and having the ability to flip Gavin out there from time to time is certainly very helpful.”
Lux has primarily played second base this season, but he is also capable of handling left field, making 19 starts at the position.
Lamb has appeared in only six games with the Dodgers thus far, but three have come in left field. As for Thompson, he has primarily played right field this season, but also has 56 career appearances in left field.
Taylor has been the Dodgers’ primary left fielder this season but also has seen time at the other two outfield positions. Roberts recently said Taylor would only play the infield in an emergency situation.
Muncy: Taylor’s injury dissappointment for Dodgers
Max Muncy called the news of Taylor’s injury “very tough” to hear, which is surely a sentiment shared throughout the Dodgers clubhouse.
“You know, he’s a grinder for us,” Muncy added. “He’s a great player. He’s been great for us this year, so it’s devastating news to hear that. But CT is also one of the toughest people I’ve ever met, so I’d bank on him being back sooner rather than later.”
