Dodgers News: Double-A Tulsa 2020 Coaching Staff Led By Manager Scott Hennessey

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced the Double-A Tulsa Drillers coaching staff for the 2020 season, led by returning manager Scott Hennessey, who enters his fourth year with the club.

Hennessey became became the 23rd full-time manager in Drillers history in July 2017 and has guided the organization to the Texas League Championship Finals in each of his first three seasons at the helm. Prior to his stint as manager, Hennessey served as a scout in the Dodgers organization for nearly a decade.

Pitching coach Dave Borkowski and performance coach Garrett Lloyd remain on the Drillers staff. Meanwhile, hitting coach Brett Pill, coach Jeremy Rodriguez, strength coach Noah Huff and athletic trainer Yuya Mukaihara are new hires for the 2020 campaign.

The upcoming season will be Borkowski’s third as pitching coach for the Drillers. Before joining the Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate, he spent eight years as a coach in the Houston Astros organization.

Prior to his coaching days, Borkowski enjoyed a 14-year Major League playing career that included stops with the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Astros.

The 2020 season also marks Lloyd’s second consecutive year with the Drillers. He was named performance coach last year, which also marked his first in the Dodgers organization.

Among the newcomers on Hennessey’s staff is Pill, who enters his first season as a coach after retiring in 2017. The 35-year-old was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round of the 2006 MLB Draft, appearing in 111 games for the organization over three seasons.

Rodriguez, entering his fifth season in the Dodgers organization, is another addition to the Drillers coaching staff. He served as Triple-A Oklahoma City’s third base coach last year. His other ventures include managerial stints for Low-A Great Lakes (2017) and Rookie-level Ogden (2018).

Huff, heading into his fourth season with the Dodgers organization, joins the Tulsa coaching staff after spending the previous year with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

The upcoming season is Mukaihara’s fifth with the Dodgers and first with the Drillers. He most recently was a member of High-A Rancho Cucamonga’s coaching staff from 2018-19.

The Drillers begin their 2020 season against the Frisco RoughRiders at ONEOK Field Field on Thursday, April 9.
