Dodgers News: Cody Bellinger Placed On Injured List; Luke Raley Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 6) due to a left calf contusion and recalled Luke Raley from the club’s alternate training site prior to their home opener on Friday.

Not long before the roster move, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Bellinger continued to make progress in his recovery since being spiked earlier in the week. However, Roberts did not it wasn’t significant and Bellinger remained bothered by lingering soreness.

He suffered the injury during the ninth inning of the series opener against the Oakland Athletics, then missed the next two games. The Dodgers had Bellinger undergo testing, which ruled out a potential fracture and structural damage in the calf area.

Bellinger is eligible to be activated off the IL on Friday, April 16. Roberts did not set an expectation for Bellinger’s return, but he noted any IL stint would be relatively short term.

Raley is with the Dodgers and on an active MLB roster for the first time in his career. He’s hit .288 with 46 home runs and 178 RBI over 347 Minor League games since being selected by the Dodgers in the seventh round of the 2016 Draft.

Raley was included in the Dodgers’ trade to acquire Logan Forsythe during the 2018 season. He was then re-acquired by the team when they traded for Brusdar Graterol in a reworked trade with the Minnesota Twins before the 2020 season.

Betts day-to-day

Like Bellinger, Mookie Betts also wasn’t in the lineup for the Dodgers’ home opener. He missed the series finale against the A’s due to lower back stiffness and remains day-to-day.

Roberts said Betts may be available against the Nationals, which would be decided after he tested the back.
