Cody Bellinger celebrated his 26th birthday on Tuesday and with that came news of also becoming the latest member of the Los Angeles Dodgers who will become a father. The revelation was made by Bellinger’s girlfriend, Chase Carter, in her social media post to wish him a happy birthday.
Bellinger and Carter have been a couple since last year, and she was with him in the postseason bubble when the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series at Globe Life Field. The child will be a first for both Bellinger and Carter.
Given the timetable shared, the couple should welcome the baby late this year, weeks after the 2021 postseason has concluded.
Bellinger and the Dodgers hope for another deep run into October as they went into the All-Star break with the second-most wins in baseball despite a rash of injuries. That included Bellinger, who missed time recovering from a hairline fracture in his left fibula and a left hamstring strain.
The time missed — coming after an offseason in which Bellinger was limited while recovering from right shoulder surgery — led to an uneven performance during the first half of the season. Though, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has downplayed any concern and is confident Bellinger will gain some traction.
Bellinger keeping patient
One of the highlights for Bellinger in the first half was a walk-off home run against the Chicago Cubs. “I knew my swing was where it needed to be and if I could just get a pitch to drive, I was confident in it,” he said.
“I’m not, like, searching for a big moment, you know? Just playing the game. If you’re in those moments, then you’re in that moment and you want to perform and succeed to help the team win.”
