The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of a six-game homestand that overlaps with the 2023 U.S. Open being played in L.A. for the first time since 1948. The 72-hole tournament began Thursday morning and runs through Sunday.

The illustrious Los Angeles Country Club is hosting the 123rd U.S. Open on its North Course, which avid golfer and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is looking forward to. “It’s cool,” he began.

“It’s been, gosh, I don’t remember the last time it’s been here in Los Angeles. LACC is great. I’ve played it. It’s going to be fantastic. I’ve got some friends that are going to come out. I’m going to go out there tomorrow and Friday.

“Max Homa is a huge Dodgers fan, Colin (Morikawa) is a huge fan. It’s great. It’s a great game. If I wasn’t a baseball player, I’d love to be a golfer.”

Roberts didn’t end up making his way to LACC on Wednesday due to meetings, but was tuned in from his office and expects a challenging tournament.

“It’s going to be a grind,” he said. “I’ve got even par is going to be in play. It’s going to be tough.”

There are 10 golfers from California competing in this year’s U.S. Open, including Modesto native Bryson DeChambeau, who won the tournament in 2020.

Ryan Pepiot among Dodgers who participated in Justin Turner Golf Classic

The seventh annual Justin Turner Golf Classic was held in Southern California this past February before Turner headed off to Spring Training with the Boston Red Sox, and many of his former Dodgers teammates were in attendance.

Among them was Ryan Pepiot, who made history at the event by hitting the first-ever hole-in-one. “I’m at a loss for words right now,” Pepiot said in a video posted by Turner to Instagram.

After making the shot, Pepiot was congratulated by Turner, and awarded with the ball and a bottle of Don Julio tequila.
