The Los Angeles Dodgers lost another key contributor this week when Gavin Lux was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury in last Sunday’s series finale against the Colorado Rockies and initially was pegged to miss a minimum of two games. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts initially surmised Lux suffered a cramp or potential mild sprain.
Now that a left hamstring strain has been confirmed, Roberts isn’t expecting to see Lux back on the field anytime soon. “I don’t think we did any other testing outside of the manual. A lot of it with the hamstring it’s the range of motion and strength,” Roberts said.
“Where he’s at, it was pretty clear that it was going to be an IL and it’s going to take some time.”
This marks the second time Lux has been sidelined by injury this season as he previously missed time in April because of right hand soreness.
Lux struggled to find a rhythm coming out of the All-Star break, going 0-for-4 in Sunday’s matchup against the Rockies and 1-for-10 across three games since play resumed last week.
Lux’s injury, while disappointing, comes at a somewhat of an opportune time for the Dodgers as Corey Seager may be on the verge of returning.
Seager has been out of action since the middle of May with a right hand fracture but recently faced Corey Knebel in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium. “Corey, I think took four at-bats. Looked really good, swung the bat well, ran the bases, took grounders, played catch,” Roberts said.
“I see a potential activation sometime here in the short term. We’ll see. I don’t want to put a date.”
There was some thought Seager would be activated but Wednesday, but Roberts said he has not yet received clearance from the training staff.
Dodgers possibly losing Betts
In other Dodgers injury news, Mookie Betts may be next who gets sidelined as he continues to deal with right hip irritation. Betts hasn’t been in the lineup since last Saturday, making only a pinch-hit appearance in the series opener against the San Francisco Giants during that span.
