Tyler Glasnow delivered a dominant season debut with five scoreless innings. Teoscar Hernández contributed a two-run home run as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-1 on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 6-0 for the first time since 1981, when they won the World Series. The Braves, meanwhile, fell to 0-5, marking their worst start since beginning the 2016 season 0-9.

The Dodgers were listed as clear favorites entering the game, with betting odds averaging around -200 on the moneyline. Still seeking their first victory of the season, the Braves were underdogs at approximately +170. The run total for the game was set at 8.5, with the under hitting as the Dodgers’ pitching staff contained Atlanta’s offense for much of the game.

Making his first start of the 2024 campaign, Glasnow (1-0) was sharp from the outset. The right-hander struck out eight batters and allowed just two hits in the fifth inning while walking three. He was efficient through five innings, keeping Atlanta scoreless in a matchup between teams expected to compete for National League pennants.

Hernández gave the Dodgers an early lead in the first inning with a 436-foot home run to center field off Braves starter Grant Holmes. The two-run shot also scored Shohei Ohtani, who had reached base on a walk. Ohtani has scored in all six games of the season despite going hitless on Monday, finishing 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and two walks.

Los Angeles extended its lead to 4-0 in the third inning. Michael Conforto drove in a run with an RBI double, and Tommy Edman added a sacrifice fly. The Dodgers added another in the fifth inning on Will Smith’s RBI single. They capped their scoring in the sixth with a solo home run by Kiké Hernández off veteran reliever Jesse Chavez, who was called up earlier in the day for his fifth stint with Atlanta since 2021.

Holmes (0-1), making his season debut for the Braves, allowed four runs on four hits over four innings. He walked four and struck out three. The Braves placed right-hander Reynaldo López on the injured list earlier in the day due to shoulder inflammation, further impacting their already struggling rotation.

Atlanta’s lone run came in the eighth inning when Michael Harris II hit a solo home run to center field off Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott, snapping the team’s 29-inning scoreless streak. The Braves’ offense continued to be limited, with only four total hits in the game.

The series continues Tuesday night with Braves left-hander Chris Sale, last season’s National League Cy Young Award winner, scheduled to make his second start of the year. The Dodgers will send right-hander Dustin May to the mound for his first Major League appearance since May 2023. May underwent Tommy John surgery, followed by emergency surgery to repair an esophageal tear caused by a food-related injury last summer. He returns to bolster a Dodgers pitching staff that has
