Dodgers 2020 Spring Training Schedule Update: Cactus League Opener Now Vs. Cubs; Giants Game Moved To March 6 Doubleheader

The Los Angeles Dodgers 2020 Spring Training schedule now begins with a Cactus League matchup against the Chicago Cubs at Camelback Ranch on Sunday, Feb. 23. Upon announcing next year’s spring slate, the Dodgers were initially scheduled to open against the San Francisco Giants.

That matchup at Scottsdale Stadium has now been pushed back to March 6, when the Dodgers will play a day-night doubleheader by also facing the Seattle Mariners that evening at Camelback Ranch.

The Dodgers historically have faced the Chicago White Sox in their Cactus League opener, but the Camelback Ranch co-tenants will wait a few days and play Monday, Feb. 24. L.A. will be the designated home team in the first of three meetings with the White Sox.

Of their 30 Cactus League games, the Dodgers play 16 of them at Camelback Ranch, with all but one as the designated home team. The White Sox will be considered such on Saturday, March 14.

The Dodgers play at Camelback Ranch on four of six Saturdays during February and March. Their only off days of the spring are March 3 and 10, both of which are Tuesdays.

Along with the change to their matchup with the Giants, the Dodgers are in split-squad action for three other dates: Feb. 29 (@ Colorado Rockies; vs. Arizona Diamondbacks), March 12 (@ Chicago Cubs; vs. Oakland Athletics) and March 20 (@ Los Angeles Angels; vs. Kansas City Royals).

The Dodgers’ Spring Training schedule concludes with the annual exhibition Freeway Series. After breaking camp, the team will return to Southern California for a game at Angel Stadium on Sunday, March 22. The three-game series then shifts to Dodger Stadium on March 23 and 24.

Some start times for 2020 Cactus League games are set, and remaining contests will be announced at a later date. Single-game tickets are set to go on sale Jan. 6, 2020.

L.A. begins the 2020 regular season on Thursday, March 26, by hosting the Giants in the opener of a three-game series. It bests the earliest domestic start date in MLB history (March 28), which was set last year.

The Dodgers are entering their 12th year at Camelback Ranch. The property features a state-of-the-art ballpark, six practice fields on the Dodgers’ side, including a replica Dodger Stadium field, fan photo elements commemorating franchise history, walking trails, an orange grove and a five-acre lake.
