The Los Angeles Dodgers rallied to earn a 10-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies that completed an undefeated homestand and extended their season-best winning streak to six games.
After an inconsistent month of April, the Dodgers are finally starting to play to their potential and look more like the team that won the National League West in nine of the last 10 seasons. “The makeup is really starting to show itself,” manager Dave Roberts said.
“I really love the culture and the guys. As the season has started to progress, they’re absolutely willing to concede playing time, or at-bats, innings, for their teammates. That’s what manifested [Wednesday].
“Some guys started the game, some guys came on late. Miguel Rojas made a great play defensively and got a hit. Guys just playing for each other. For me, it’s coming together the way it’s supposed to.”
After hovering around .500 for most of April, Roberts believes the Dodgers’ hot stretch is taking place at an opportune time and was bound to occur. “We expected it to come, you just never know when it’s going to happen,” Roberts said.
“I think you just sort of bet that the process is right and the players are right, and you just keep trying to play good baseball and hopefully you can tally some wins together.
“I talked about holding serve in April, and I thought we did a good job of that, given all the things we had to go through as a ballclub. It’s good to know we’re playing our best baseball up to this point.”
Mookie Betts: Momentum gained from winning streak means ‘a lot’ for Dodgers
Mookie Betts, who has played some of his best baseball as of late, opined that the Dodgers’ winning streak has given the team some much-needed momentum.
Freddie Freeman echoed a similar sentiment and thinks L.A. is starting to find its rhythm after welcoming back several key players from the injured list and paternity leave.
