The Los Angeles Dodgers’ struggles continued on Sunday as they dropped their fifth consecutive game with a 4-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
The Dodgers offense mustered only run on five hits in the contest, leaving four on base and going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. It marked the sixth time in the last 16 games that L.A. scored one or fewer runs.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the offense has not been getting it done lately and needs to find a solution, via Bill Plunkett of Southern California News Group:
“It just seems like we’re running cold. When you’re not hitting, it certainly seems lifeless,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I know it’s not from care and preparation. But the bottom line is, it’s about results. And we’re not getting them right now. I think everyone in that clubhouse understands that.”
“There’s no team that’s gonna feel sorry for you. This is a grown man’s game. You gotta pull up your boot straps and find a way to figure it out. There’s nothing I can detect. I think that, inside of the numbers, when you get a good pitch to hit you gotta hit them. And you gotta control the strike zone. And that’s kind of the crux of it. But they outplayed us this series and won three.”
The Dodgers’ offense has been on a downward spiral for the better part of three weeks as they are averaging only 3.5 runs over their last 17 games.
The lack of production has been the biggest reason for L.A.’s five-game losing streak, which is their longest in five years. Moreover, the Dodgers have not held a lead since their series opener against the Reds on Friday.
Mookie Betts: Dodgers ‘just gotta keep going’
Mookie Betts has been one of the only players to continue swinging a hot bat during the Dodgers’ losing streak as he is 6-for-15 over his last four games.
Betts recently said that the team has to keep looking forward and figure out a way to get back on track.
