With Jason Heyward facing a prolonged stint on the 10-day injured list, the Los Angeles Dodgers called up Andy Pages from Triple-A Oklahoma City last month.
Pages, the No. 3 ranked Dodgers prospect by MLB Pipeline, was hitting .371/.452/.694 with three doubles, one triple, five home runs and 15 RBI through 15 games at the time of his promotion.
The 23-year-old has been able to carry over that success into the Majors as he has been on a hot-streak, producing superstar-level production from the bottom of the lineup. He also had a four-hit game, which included a walk-off hit against the Atlanta Braves.
Manager Dave Roberts has been impressed with Pages and said the organization is thrilled by his early results, via Michael Reynolds of MLB.com:
“There was a feeling that his skill set should play at the big league level, but you don’t know until you know,” Roberts said. “I think internally, we’re pretty excited that he’s performed the way he has so early on.”
Pages has been given every opportunity to make an impact at the big league level as he is getting starts against both right-handed and left-handed pitchers.
He has provided a much-needed spark to the bottom of the Dodgers lineup, which had been lacking in production prior to this call-up.
Pages’ early success has also been rewarding considering the amount of work he put in after undergoing season-ending left shoulder surgery in 2023. “Really, really surprised. Pleasantly surprised,” Roberts said of his rookie outfielder.
“With the lead arm, there’s a lot of hitters that hurt that lead arm and it affects their swing considerably. So for him to rebound, speaks to how much commitment he put into the rehab process. He’s in great shape. As good of shape as he’s ever been in. He put in a lot of work.”
Andy Pages: ‘Very special’ to hit first MLB home run
Pages hit his first MLB home run in a 10-0 win over the Mets last month, which meant a lot to him.
“It’s very exciting to hit a home run against the best players in the world. It’s very special,” Pages said through an interpreter.
