The Los Angeles Dodgers rallied to defeat the New York Mets, 5-2, in 10 innings to take the first game of a doubleheader at Citi Field on Tuesday. After tying the score in the top of the ninth, Daniel Hudson was tasked with sending the contest to extra innings.

The right-hander initially ran into some trouble as he allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out. He then fell behind in the count, 3-0, to Tyrone Taylor before getting him to pop out to Mookie Betts.

Hudson escaped the jam by getting Jeff McNeil to pop out to end the inning. He was noticeably pumped up walking off the mound, which he attributed to adrenaline, via Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

“We’ve been grinding, and then the boys battled back, [so just] had some adrenaline there in the ninth inning,” Hudson said.

Hudson also silenced the Mets fans with a shush gesture as a reminder that the Dodgers are a good team:

“You know, it was getting loud, so just reminding them,” Hudson explained with a grin. “Just telling them, ‘Hey, we’re the Dodgers. We’re good.’ ”

Hudson’s Houdini act allowed the Dodgers to score three runs in the 10th that proved to be the difference maker. Mookie Betts had the go-ahead RBI single and Freddie Freeman provided some insurance with a two-run homer.

The win helped the Dodgers end a season-worst five-game losing streak. L.A. rode their momentum in the nightcap of the doubleheader as they shut out the Mets, 3-0, behind another excellent start from Gavin Stone.
