Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers had one of the worst scoring benches in the entire NBA, but that should get a big boost with the addition of Collin Sexton this offseason. Sexton has long proven to be a player who can score at a high level and he continued to thrive in a reserve role last season with the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls.

Sexton is known for being extremely competitive and believes joining the Lakers is the perfect opportunity for him to compete at the highest level.

“Honestly, I would say just opportunity,” Sexton said when asked why he chose to sign with the Lakers in free agency. “Opportunity to go out and win and be able to compete each and every night and I feel like that’s something that needs to be shown that I bring each and every day is that want to compete, but also the want to win. Every day they’re gonna be in the bright lights and every day they’re gonna have all eyes on them. But also, everyone’s gonna try to beat us and give us their best.”

Sexton has now been in the NBA for eight seasons, but has yet to appear in a single playoff game. That is sure to eat at someone as competitive as he is and the Lakers are always under the brightest lights and most pressure. Being able to thrive in that environment is something many struggle to do, but Sexton is embracing.

Last season, the Lakers averaged just 29.3 bench points, ranking 29th in the league. Sexton by himself averaged 15.4 points last year in 68 games, 46 of those as a reserve. He is someone that can lead the reserve unit and give a real boost coming off the bench, while also being capable of playing alongside lead guards in Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves and would have no problems jumping in the starting lineup in case of injury as well.

Most players just need the right opportunity to show what they can do. Sexton has shown throughout his career that he is an excellent NBA player, but now he has the chance to show that he can be a great player in a winning environment and he is looking forward to shining on this big stage.

New Lakers center Walker Kessler gives positive update on shoulder injury

The move that got the most attention for the Lakers this summer was bringing in center Walker Kessler. And coming off a torn left labrum that limited him to just five games last season, the big man gave a positive injury update.
