The Los Angeles Rams are set to hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 11.
The Rams’ defense has put together a dominant showing with their elite play so far in the 2020 NFL season. Of course, they will have their work cut out squaring off against this star-studded Bucs offense with no shortage of firepower across the board.
The onus will fall on quarterback Jared Goff and the offense to do their part by putting points on the board when given the opportunity. Despite their struggles with scoring, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians is not overlooking what the Rams have under center.
Arians is certainly no stranger to game-planning for L.A. given his days as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. He credited the team for the all-around effort they have put forth this season, per Stu Jackson of the team’s official website:
“(Quarterback) Jared (Goff) is playing very, very well, protecting the football,” Arians said during a video conference with Buccaneers and Rams beat writers Thursday morning. “They’re running the ball well. Their play action game is outstanding. Defensively, I mean, that might be the best second half defense in the league right now. Kicking game, (punter Johnny) Hekker is one of the best in the game right now.”
Arians also shared some high praise for Goff’s development under head coach Sean McVay:
“Yeah, I think since he’s been with Sean, he’s just grown and grown,” Arians said. “And it looks like they have great chemistry together as a coach/play caller and a quarterback. I just see continued growth – protecting the football, accuracy on the move, down the field. I just see really steady growth and (him) turning into a heck of a player.”
It is safe to say that Arians is well-aware of the recipe for success that the Rams have relied on this season. After all, they boast a top-10 run game while the defense allows the second-fewest points and yards per game.
Regardless, Arians still has good reason to be confident that his offense will be able to find a way to score points. They boast a tremendous 1-2 punch in the backfield with Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette while Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown head the receiving corps on the outside.
As a result, this game could very well be decided by how well Goff and the offense can play against this stout Bucs defense.
