Pete Alonso recorded two home runs and five runs batted in while Griffin Canning delivered six scoreless innings, as the New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium. With the win, the Mets claimed the third game in a four-game series following two straight extra-inning contests between the clubs.

Entering the game, sportsbooks listed the Dodgers as slight favorites, with moneyline odds generally around -120, and the Mets posted at +100. The over/under was set at 8.5 runs. The final score surpassed that line as both teams combined for seven runs.

Alonso’s first-inning home run set the tone early for New York, which opened the game with a three-run frame. After Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin hit Francisco Lindor with a pitch, Brandon Nimmo reached on an error by second baseman Kiké Hernández. Juan Soto brought Lindor home on a groundout before Alonso launched a two-run homer to give the Mets a 3-0 advantage.

That early lead held firm for most of the game thanks to Canning, who limited the league’s most productive lineup to three hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out seven and issued just one walk, earning his sixth win and first since early May against Arizona.

The Dodgers struggled to generate consistent offense. They threatened in the seventh inning with runners on first and second after Andy Pages doubled and a pitch from Mets reliever José Castillo hit Michael Conforto. However, Dalton Rushing and Hernández struck out to end the scoring opportunity.

Los Angeles finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth inning when Pages homered off Ryne Stanek. That solo shot was the Dodgers’ only run of the game, as they failed to find timely hits in key moments. The middle of their order, including Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernández, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith, combined to go 0-for-15 with a single walk.

Alonso sealed the game at the top of the eighth inning when he hit his 14th home run, a three-run blast off Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia, who reached the upper deck in left field. That swing gave the Mets a 6-0 cushion before Los Angeles broke up the shutout in the final frame.

Gonsolin took the loss for the Dodgers, dropping to 3-2 on the season. He worked five innings, giving up three runs—two of them earned—on three hits, while striking out six and walking three.

A brief delay occurred in the eighth inning when a shirtless spectator ran onto the field. The fan was tackled by security near the left-field warning track and escorted out of the stadium.

The Mets will look to secure a series victory in the finale on Thursday. Left-hander David Peterson (4-2, 2.69 ERA) is set to start for New York, while the Dodgers will send right-hander Landon Knack (3-2, 4.58 ERA) to the mound.
