The Los Angeles Lakers don’t have much on the roster in terms of young players with potential to grow into impact players, but one who showed some flashes in limited appearances this season was rookie wing Adou Thiero.

Injuries limited Thiero’s ability to make an impact in his first year, but when he did get some chances his athleticism and defensive focus stood out. Offensively, however, there is still a lot of room to grow and that is exactly where Thiero’s focus is as he enters his first offseason with the team.

“Getting my shot a lot more consistent,” Thiero said when asked what this offseason will look like for him. “Just getting the confidence to take the open shot when it’s there and just keep building on my offensive game, try to get more comfortable with the speed of the NBA. I feel like a couple more reps would do that some good, but just trying to make myself a little bit more ready for the next season to try to be a little bit more of an impact player for the team.”

Thiero’s ability to knock down open jumpers will be the key to unlocking what he can be at the NBA level. The Lakers have been lacking true two-way wings and Thiero has the potential to be what they need. Head coach JJ Redick even gave Thiero some playoff minutes and he believes that experience will help him grow as well.

“Just being out there seeing how teams are playing me, what reads I’ll have to make in the offense we run and everything,” Thiero added. “Just picking that up and seeing where I can be better at. Now I can go into the offseason knowing what I gotta work on.”

Thiero understands the areas he must improve and he will undoubtedly put in the work this offseason, especially since he is healthy as opposed to last summer when he was recovering from knee surgery that kept him out to start the season. Much of the focus surrounding the Lakers this summer is about outside players the team can bring in to improve, but they also have one already on the roster who could make a major leap next season

Adou Thiero expects to play for Lakers in Summer League

Thiero was unable to participate in Summer League prior to his rookie season due to that recovery from surgery, but with him healthy going into this offseason, he fully expects to suit up this summer.
