After a long and drawn-out negotiation process, the Las Vegas Raiders and star tight end Darren Waller have agreed on a contract extension.
The team announced this morning that the two sides have agreed to a three-year deal. Terms of the deal were not included in the press release sent out by the Raiders on Saturday.
However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Waller’s new deal is worth $51 million.
Tight end Darren Waller and the Las Vegas Raiders have reached agreement on a three-year contract extension with $51 million in new money.
New Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said the following about Waller in the press release announcing the tight end’s new deal with Las Vegas.
“Darren Waller is an exemplary teammate in every way, and we’re excited to see him continue to grow as a leader on this team,” said McDaniels. “Darren brings a tremendous commitment and work ethic to the building every day and we couldn’t be more thrilled that he will be a part of the Raiders Family for years to come.”
With Waller now joining Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow, Maxx Crosby, Chandler Jones and Derek Carr as players that have signed long-term deals, the Raiders can officially get to work on Sunday in the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers with zero off-the-field distractions.
Although Waller is coming off a down year due to injuries, the 29-year-old proved his worth over the two previous seasons putting up solid numbers while becoming one of Carr’s favorite targets in the passing game.
In four seasons with the Silver and Black, Waller has caught 203 passes for 2,416 yards and 12 touchdowns in 36 games played for the Raiders.
