Rams Injury Update: Eric Weddle Cleared To Play In Week 2 Matchup Vs. Saints; Michael Brockers & Clay Matthews Listed As Probable

2 Min Read

The Los Angeles Rams got their 2019-20 season off to a good start with a road win against the Carolina Panthers. They face a tough test in Week 2 though with the New Orleans Saints coming to town for an NFC Championship Game rematch.

The Rams have unfortunately been dealing with a few injuries on the defensive side of the ball, which is unfortunate considering they are about to face Drew Brees and the Saints high-powered offense.

Eric Weddle, who was one of the Rams’ big offseason acquisitions, left his Rams debut after suffering a head laceration and concussion in the second quarter against the Panthers. Additionally, both Michael Brockers (shoulder) and Clay Matthews (back) suffered injuries of their own although they were able to stay in the game.

Rams head coach Sean McVay gave updates on the trio of defensive players during Friday’s practice, and it appears Weddle has completed the league’s concussion protocol and will be good to go Sunday while Brockers and Matthews are both listed as probable, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN:

Sean McVay says Clay Matthews (back) and Michael Brockers (shoulder) are probable to play Sunday. Eric Weddle (Concussion) has been cleared. McVay says he gave Todd Gurley a rest day.

This is obviously great news for the Rams defense as they will now likely be at full strength against Brees and the Saints.

Weddle had six total tackles (two solo) before leaving with the injury against the Panthers, while Brockers had two total tackles of his own and Matthews had three tackles, with one being a sack and another a tackle for loss.
