The Los Angeles Rams got back on track in Week 7 when they dominated the Chicago Bears for a smooth 24-10 victory.
Now sitting at 5-2 almost halfway through the 2020 season, the Rams are well-positioned to return to the playoffs after failing to make an appearance last year. It marked the first time in Sean McVay’s tenure that Los Angeles missed the postseason.
The Rams have as good as shot as any of winning this season’s Super Bowl if they play like they did against the Bears. They controlled each phase of the game and looked like the most ideal and effective version of themselves.
A potential Rams Super Bowl would be an unprecedented event for a city that just celebrated NBA and MLB championships thanks to the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers, respectively. According to Grant Gordon of NFL.com, Jared Goff is hoping to add his team to the list of Los Angeles champions:
“It’s something that’s really exciting for the city right now,” Goff told reporters Tuesday. “It’d be good to make that a little three-peat with us involved there. It’s definitely something that we’re conscious of, absolutely.”
Goff is confident in the current roster and believes the team can get there if they continue with how they are playing:
“We’ve got all the pieces. We’re winning games. We are playing well, on offense, defense, special teams,” Goff said. “We always believe in ourselves and we’ve been there once with a lot of the same people. We know how to get there. We’ve just got to finish it off and hopefully this is the year.”
With a talented roster, continuity, and McVay’s coaching there is no reason to believe the Rams could not make a Super Bowl run. Although there are several teams who are ranked ahead of L.A., nothing is guaranteed in the postseason and they could conceivably catch fire down the stretch of the year.
It is wishful thinking as there is still another half of football left to be played, but so far the Rams have proven they belong in the contender discussion. If they improve upon their current play, a three-peat in Los Angeles would not be out of the question.
