The Los Angeles Rams placed running back Ronnie Rivers on injured reserve and filled his spot on the active roster by signing safety Maximus Pulley off the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.
Pulley signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Wofford during the offseason. He did not make their initial 53-man roster, but was elevated from their practice squad in Week 2 and played six snaps on special teams against the Tennessee Titans.
Rams head coach Sean McVay discussed the signing and envisions Pulley continuing to contribute on special teams, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“We’re just a little bit lighter on the back end, and so (we) figured let’s bring him in,” head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday. “He’s a guy that we had some like for from his college tape, and so we’ll welcome him with open arms and go from there.”
As for Rivers, he is expected to miss anywhere from four-to-six weeks after suffering a calf injury in the Rams’ 28-6 win over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football:
“He got his calf in the game, so it was just kind of a freak deal where he was jumping up, and I think he got it when he was kind of just jumping up to loosen himself up,” McVay said. “And it’s a four-to-six-week injury. Bummed out for Ronnie.”
Losing Rivers isn’t ideal, but the Rams are confident they have enough depth at running back to withstand his absence. L.A. currently has Kyren Williams and Blake Corum on their active roster, but could promote Dean Connors or Jordan Waters from their practice squad if necessary.
Byron Young sends best wishes to Jaxson Dart
The Rams bounced back with a dominant win over the Giants in Week 2, but overshadowing the game itself was quarterback Jaxson Dart suffering a significant left knee injury.
Dart went down on the Giants’ first offensive drive when outside linebackers Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart awkwardly collided with him. Dart attempted to return but was eventually ruled out.
The play was a freak accident that will unfortunately keep one of the brightest young quarterbacks out for quite some time. Young sent his best wishes to Dart on social media and hopes he has a speedy recovery.
Dart will undergo season-ending surgery but is expected to make a full recovery and hopefully will be able to get his career back on track next year.
