Mookie Betts continued to swing a hot bat in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 6-4 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old began his night with a single before coming around to score the Dodgers’ first run of the game in the top of the second inning.
Betts then led off the fourth with his 16th home run of the season before adding an RBI single in the top of the 10th that extended the Dodgers’ lead. He finished 3-for-5 with the homer, two RBI and three runs scored.
“We’re getting closer,” Betts told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA. “It’s a work in progress every day. I’m just happy I was able to help the boys in a time of need.”
The Dodgers scored 24 runs in their three-game sweep of the Rockies, and while that number should be taken with a grain of salt given the hitter-friendly nature of Coors Field, it was still a positive development for an offense that has been lackluster of late.
Meanwhile, Betts has been one of the Dodgers’ hottest hitters this month, batting .315/.351/.537 with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBI over his last 14 games.
Betts recently said he was starting to feel like himself at the plate again in what has been an inconsistent season by his standards.
After a productive series against the Rockies, Betts is now hitting .237/.291/.412 with 14 doubles, 16 home runs and 44 RBI in 91 games.
Dave Roberts praises Mookie Betts
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts credited Betts for quality at-bats against the Rockies and believes his hard work behind the scenes is starting to pay off.
“Mookie had a nice day. I thought he really had a good look tonight,” Roberts said. “He’s been working his tail off, extra hitting. To homer, to get the base hit, get the base hit in the 10th, we all know guys feed off of Mookie’s energy. When he’s going well, guys are going to want to follow that and feed off that energy.”
Roberts previously said he believed a recent difference in Betts’ confidence and demeanor were going to be key to sustaining success compared to stretches earlier in the year that saw him tail off.
