Having just unveiled the Kobe 10 Protro Halo colorway, Nike is further celebrating the Los Angeles Lakers legend this weekend through the “Chick Hearn Experience” at Peacock Place in L.A. Live.

It of course is named after the Lakers’ longtime broadcaster. The immersive gallery highlights the Kobe signature line through mixed media installations. LakersNation.com was invited to a preview of the space, which starts with a mural painted by artist Mikala Taylor that celebrates key moments from Bryant’s Lakers career, and a display of Halo colorways of his Nike releases.

The immersive experience highlights the evolution of the Nike Kobe line, which has seen 11 signature models released, plus A.D., NXT and NXT 360 versions.

Chick Hearn Experience details

Nike arranged the “Chick Hearn Experience” to feature Bryant’s signature line in three distinct acts at the intersection of art and performance. It’s open to the general public through Sunday, Aug. 7, in coordination with the Mamba Invitational.

The Past revisits the original Kobe 1-11 designs, and memorable moments such as scoring 81 points, winning NBA MVP, multiple championships and Bryant’s 60-point extravaganza to end his career.

The Present explores how today’s athletes continue to carry Bryant’s legacy forward with the Protro line, which was brought to life through a digital installation.

The Future introduces the Kobe 10 Protro, explores its updated performance innovation and offers a glimpse at what is coming next through a 3D sculpture by artist Troy Murray.

“The Nike and Kobe team tasked me with creating a piece that storytells obsession to detail. I casted outsoles of his iconic shoes to reveal the precision that goes into every Kobe,” Murray said in a statement.

His mixed media installation features the outsole designs from signature Kobe shoes and an unreleased model that is forthcoming.

“Kobe started this project. We’re committed to carrying it forward to the finish. More details soon,” Kobe brand VP/GM Dan Sunwoo said.
