Ty Simpson is being heralded as the Los Angeles Rams’ quarterback of the future, but understands he won’t make much of an impact next season with Matthew Stafford still playing at an MVP level.
While there was some thought that Stafford wouldn’t like the idea of the Rams drafting his successor, he has done nothing but welcome Simpson with open arms.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide product appreciates Stafford for showing him the ropes and answering any questions he asks, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“But now we’ve had a good rapport and a good relationship, and it’s just like another guy. And that goes back to how (Stafford) is taken us all in, and I really appreciate it, because he didn’t have to do that,” Simpson said. “Anything that I can ask him and I can just take in, I’m willing to. So I hope I’m not annoying him, but I really appreciate the ‘big brother’ kind of role that he’s playing in my development.”
Stafford is widely considered one of the nicest players in football, so it comes as no surprise that he has already developed a good relationship with his fellow quarterback.
Stafford previously said that he was looking forward to mentoring Simpson as he understands how important it is for veteran players to help new draft picks make the transition to the NFL.
Stafford will continue to hold things down at quarterback for the foreseeable future, but he is also being mindful of helping Simpson prepare for the starting role when the time comes.
As for the 23-year-old, he has been a sponge since joining the Rams by absorbing as much knowledge as he can from the future Hall of Famer and one of the best offensive-minded coaches in Sean McVay.
Blake Corum explains why he switched to No. 24 jersey
When the Rams acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this offseason, he was able to keep his longtime No. 22 jersey after working out a deal with backup running back Blake Corum.
Corum was eager to give it up so he could switch to No. 24, which is what he originally wanted to wear with the Rams as a way to honor his father and Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant
Corum previously wore the No. 24 in high school and for the early part of his career with the University of Michigan Wolverines.
