This season did not end the way Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic envisioned as a Grade 2 left hamstring strain took him out for the entirety of the team’s postseason run. That will undoubtedly motivate Doncic even more this offseason, but the guard also has other priorities he is focused on this summer.

Once the Lakers season officially ended, Doncic announced that he would not be participating in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers for his native Slovenia in order to focus on gaining joint custody of his two daughters. Doncic has been back in Slovenia spending time with his children and the superstar looks to be enjoying those precious moments, via Legion Hoops:

Some things are just bigger than basketball and family and children are certainly among them. Doncic takes a lot of pride in representing his country on the court, but the love he has for his daughters trumps everything and he wanted to spend as much time as possible with them during the offseason, as he should.

It is beautiful to see Doncic being able to bond with his children and just doing simple things like walking in the park or playing around the house. For a superstar of Doncic’s fame, it isn’t always easy to do the basic things and time is often split amongst many things, especially during the season. Being able to have this time with his children is invaluable for both Doncic and his daughters and there is just no substitute for these moments.

There will be plenty of time for Doncic to put in all the necessary work to be ready for next season and there is no doubt he will do so, but for now his focus is on being a great father to his two young daughters and is beautiful to see him excelling in that world as well.

Luka Doncic: Lakers were championship contenders before injuries

When it comes to on-court, the ultimate goal for Doncic and the Lakers is to win a championship and the team obviously came up short this season, due in large part to the injuries suffered by both Doncic and Austin Reaves who missed the start of the postseason with a Grade 2 left oblique strain.

Prior to that, however, the Lakers were playing their best basketball of the season as things had clicked into place. And Doncic believes that they were legit title contenders before injuries derailed things.
