The Columbus Blue Jackets will talk to their pending UFAs, and what they might be looking for

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: The Columbus Blue Jackets will use the Olympic break to talk to pending UFA forwards Boone Jenner, Charlie Coyle, Mason Marchment and defenseman Erik Gudbranson and see if any contract extensions can be worked out. It would be a boost to the room if any can be re-signed, but if talks break down, they could decide to hold to them at the trade deadline.

GM Don Waddell could be looking to add a scoring forward with term at the deadline to reward this team after they clawed their way back into the playoff race. Maybe Waddell looks to add forward depth in former Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno, who could be traded by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Teams that could be interested in Vincent Trocheck, and what they have that might interest the New York Rangers

Peter Baugh and Vincent Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic: The future of Vincent Trocheck in a New York Ranger jersey is unknown. He’s got three years left at a $5.625 million cap hit and is their best trade asset at the deadline. The Rangers could opt to wait until the offseason or decide not to move him at all.

Teams will be calling and they should take no less than what the New York Islanders got for center Brock Nelson, a first-round pick, a quality center prospect in Calum Ritchie and a conditional third. There are very few top-six centers available.

Trocheck carries a 12-team no-trade list. Potential trade candidates and what pieces they have that might interest in the Rangers.

Minnesota Wild – No 2026 first but do have their 2027 and 2028. Forwards Danila Yurov and Charlie Stramel, and defensemen David Jiricek and Carson Lambos.

Carolina Hurricanes – Each of their own first round picks in the next three years and an extra one in 2028. Defenseman Alexander Nikishin and forwards Bradly Nadeau and Nikita Artamonov.

Detroit Red Wings – Have their own first-round picks, and forwards Nate Danielson and Marco Kasper. They are loaded with other young prospects.

Utah Mammoth – Have four picks in the first two rounds this year and are No. 3 on Corey Pronman’s prospect pool rankings. Forwards Caleb Desnoyers, Cole Beaudoin or maybe Barrett Hayton (25-year-old pending RFA).

Dallas Stars – Don’t have a first-round pick this year or in 2028. Pending RFA, forward Mavrik Bourque could be an option.

Colorado Avalanche – No first-round pick this year and limited assets. May go after a 3C and not a 2C.

Pittsburgh Penguins – May not want to give up young assets for someone who will be 33 next season.

NHL Rumors: How Much Selling Could the Toronto Maple Leafs be Looking at?

Los Angeles Kings – Trocheck is friends with newly acquired Artemi Panarin. They are interested in Trocheck and the sides have worked out a big deal already this season. Have their firsts, but do they have more that would interest the Rangers?

New York Islanders – Have an extra first-round pick this season and a decent prospect pool. Can the rivals make another trade this season. Trocheck may like the idea of not having to move.
