With the Las Vegas Raiders struggling to begin this season, rumblings will inevitably begin to start popping up about the team potentially looking to trade its bigger names. Chief among them is star wide receiver Davante Adams who has been outspoken about his frustrations with the team.
Most recently, Adams called out the Raiders players for failing to do the necessary work to establish a winning culture within the franchise. His line about not having the ‘time to wait around’ for the Raider to figure things out led many to wonder whether he was potentially looking to be traded away.
But that does not seem to be the case, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (subscription needed) reports that Adams is set on remaining with the Raiders for the long term:
With the Raiders struggling, Davante Adams is a popular name for fans to throw around as a potential dream trade candidate. From what I’ve always heard, however, Adams has been set on playing in Vegas long-term. That has been the plan from when he got traded there in 2022. So unless something has changed, I don’t get any sense that he wants out.
This will undoubtedly allow Raiders fans to breathe a sigh of relief as Adams has remained one of the team’s few bright spots and among the top receivers in the NFL. Adams wants to win in silver and black, and the receiver also believes in the team’s young quarterback, Aidan O’Connell as well.
Fowler also made note that Adams is a big believer in the Raiders’ fourth-round pick, who made his first career start on Sunday:
And as a nod to the future, I’m also told he’s a big believer in Aidan O’Connell, the fourth-round rookie who stepped in for the injured Garoppolo (concussion) against the Chargers. Obviously, Garoppolo is entrenched as the starter, but O’Connell gives Las Vegas a real option to develop.
O’Connell has shown flashes but also had a rough go in his first start, committing three turnovers, including a costly interception in the end zone on the Raiders’ final possession as they were looking to tie the game late.
Even still, O’Connell obviously has some fans within the locker room, and for a young quarterback, there is no more important fan to have than your star receiver. Those on the outside may be hoping Adams becomes available, but he is with the Raiders for the long haul and seemingly wants O’Connell with him as well.
