The NFL has released the full schedule for the 2023 season, which means the Los Angeles Rams now know when they will be playing all of their opponents.
Before the regular season gets underway though, the Rams of course will play the preseason where they will be taking on the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos this year.
The Rams will be at home to start the preseason, hosting their SoFi Stadium co-tenants in the Chargers in Week 1 and then the Raiders in Week 2. L.A. will then go on the road and take on the Broncos to close out the preseason in their final tuneup for their Week 1 regular season contest against the Seattle Seahawks.
It’s clear that the NFL has made reducing travel a priority in the preseason, which is why the Rams are playing three AFC West teams. It also marks rematches from the 2022 regular season for the Rams as they beat the Raiders and Broncos before losing to the Chargers.
This year’s Rams roster will look a lot different though after unloading the contracts of some key veterans this offseason.
Sean McVay and the Rams are usually an organization that doesn’t play their starters in the preseason, although this year may be a little different. After losing so many key players, the Rams have a lot of starting positions up for grabs that will be filled by young players.
The Rams drafted a league-high 14 players in 2023 while also adding a number of undrafted free agents to the organization. Given their lack of experience, most if not all will likely see action for the Rams during the preseason.
The remaining veterans like Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald and others still won’t play, but rookies like Stetson Bennett, Steve Avila, Puka Nacua and Byron Young could all be in the mix which should make for a fun preseason for fans watching.
It remains to be seen what kind of season the Rams will have in 2023 after going 5-12 in 2022, but building winning habits will be important for such a young roster and that begins in training camp and the preseason.
