One of the scarier moments of the NFL offseason came courtesy of former Las Vegas Raiders tight end Foster Moreau. During a free agent visit with the New Orleans Saints, doctors discovered that Moreau had Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of cancer, and Moreau announced that he was stepping away from football to fight the disease.
Moreau was steadfast in his belief that he would fight and beat the cancer and now things already seem to be on the upswing. In fact, Moreau’s time away from football was a short one as he has already agreed to a new deal with a new team.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Moreau has agreed to a three-year, $12 million deal with the New Orleans Saints including $8 million guaranteed:
Quite the comeback in the works: TE Foster Moreau and the #Saints have agreed to terms on a three-year, $12-million deal including $8 million guaranteed and $3 million in incentives, agent @JLSports3 told ESPN.

It is a truly great story and just a positive moment for Moreau who now gets to play for his hometown team. A diagnosis of cancer of any kind is a scary proposition for anybody, but Moreau said he would fight and it is already paying off as he plans on being able to play in the 2023 season.
Moreau became a solid and reliable tight end target for the Raiders over the last couple of seasons as Darren Waller struggled with injury. Moreau would wind up starting 14 games last season and 11 the year prior. 2022 was his best season as he caught 33 passes for 420 yards and two touchdowns. In four years with the Raiders, he caught 12 touchdowns total.
Not only does Moreau get to play for his hometown team, but he also follows his Raiders teammate and someone who knows him very well in Derek Carr, who signed with the Saints to be the team’s starting quarterback earlier this offseason.
For the Raiders it will be an entirely new group of tight ends with Moreau gone and the team trading Waller away to the New York Giants. The front office added a pair of veterans in Austin Hooper and O.J. Howard in free agency but also used a second-round pick on Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer, a complete all-around tight end who many believe could take over as the team’s starter at the position sooner rather than later.
