The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the final month of the 2024 season in a competitive National League West race with the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres, but have opened up some distance behind strong play and winning a key head-to-head series.

The Dodgers enter Monday with the best record in baseball at 86-57, one game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. Both teams have won seven of their last 10 games to create separation atop MLB’s standings.

Los Angeles already clinched a franchise-record 14th consecutive winning season and are on track to reach the postseason for the 12th year in a row. The Dodgers also appear primed to clinch the NL West title for an 11th time during that span.

Dodgers standings update

Dodgers

After finishing off a wraparound set at Chase Field, the Dodgers split the Freeway Series before taking two of three from the Cleveland Guardians.

They now are due to face the Chicago Cubs, who have cooled after making a push for the Wild Card picture, and then begin a road trip with wraparound series against the Cubs.

The Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the NL West is down to 13. They are six games ahead of the Padres for first place in the division.

Diamondbacks

Coming off losing three of four to the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks capitalized on facing the San Francisco Giants but then dropped two of three to the Houston Astros.

Arizona falling into a 4-6 stretch has them 6.5 games back in the NL West standings and seemingly bound for another Wild Card berth.

The Diamondbacks are off Monday before resuming play with home series against the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers.

Padres

The Padres closed the week by losing two of three to the Giants, which could ultimately prove costly. San Diego also is off Monday for travel in advance of a road series against the Seattle Mariners. That’s going to be followed by a rematch with the Giants.

While the Padres may not catch the Dodgers for the NL West crown, they still need to remain mindful of staying ahead of the Diamondbacks for the No. 1 Wild Card seed.
