The Los Angeles Dodgers first claimed Luke Williams off waivers from the Miami Marlins in November 2022, but then non-tendered him less than two weeks later.

The Dodgers re-signed Williams to a Minor League contract that included an invitation to Spring Training, and he would ultimately begin the 2023 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

After hitting .375/.455/.696 with 12 extra-base hits in 14 games for OKC, Williams was recalled by the Dodgers as the corresponding move to Mookie Betts going on the paternity list.

Williams received three starts at shortstop and appeared in four overall games with the Dodgers. He went 1-for-10 at the plate with one stolen base and threw a scoreless inning in mop-up duty against the Chicago Cubs on April 21.

He was then optioned to Oklahoma City at the end of April as the corresponding move to Max Muncy being activated from the paternity list.

Williams spent the next month with the Dodgers’ top Minor League affiliate before he was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves on June 5.

The 27-year-old initially reported to Triple-A Gwinnett before joining the Braves for a brief stint at the end of August. He returned to the Stripers but ended the 2023 season in the Majors as a September call-up.

Williams appeared in seven games with the Braves, going hitless in nine at-bats with one run scored and three stolen bases. He found more success in Triple-A, batting .259/.353/.423 with 14 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 53 RBI and 28 stolen bases across 90 games.

Luke Williams 2023 highlight

Williams collected his only Major League hit of the 2023 season in the Dodgers’ 6-2 win over the Cubs on April 20.

2024 outlook

Williams remains under contract with the Braves and will once again serve as depth for the 2024 season. He played four different positions last year and could use that versatility to get back to the Majors at some point.
